Carlos Kincade was inside her. The CEO and heir to the Kincade empire. The man who desired her and wanted her to be his wife. The man who was listed as the most discreet philanthropist giving to so many underprivileged in the community. The man who was now her lover. Or was he?
“You okay, baby?” his deep, low voice sliced into her thoughts.
“Mmm. Thank you so much, baby,” she whispered.
They went to sleep in the suite as the sound of the Falls whooshed outside the window. The lights from outside glowing into the dark room creating an ambiance.
During the next week, Carlos and Elsie went to a few sightseeing places and got to know each other. She was annoyed every time he answered his Blackberry and thought of throwing it over the Falls jokingly because whenever they were getting close or engaged into a deep conversation, the damn cell would interrupt things and he’d be talking business forever. Elsie grew fond of Carlos every single moment. They made love every single night that week and Elsie was sure she wasn’t walking straight anymore. She was ever cautious of the feeling between her legs.
“What’s this?” Elsie asked Carlos one evening as they got ready to attend a ball on the fifth floor of the hotel.
“A gift,” he smiled, straightening his tie.
When she opened it, she was shocked. It was a beautiful lace and silk thong but she recognized the device attached to it from the catalogue.
She rolled her eyes at him. “You want me to wear this remote control vibrating panties to the ball?”
He grinned and reached over and kissed her. “Absolutely.”
“No way,” she threw the underwear on the bed.
“Oh? Are you disobeying me now?” he raised a brow as he pulled his dinner jacket on.
“No….sir….I just. Well, that would be embarrassing wouldn’t it?”
“Not really. Once you wear it, I’ll be discreet when I want you to get…aroused.”
“What if I come at the dinner table?”
“Like When Harry Met Sally?” he laughed.
“That’s so not funny, Carlos.”
He sighed. “I’m serious now. You are to wear those panties, they’re a gift.”
“Fine. I’ll wear them just this once but if I say stop…”
“I will most definitely stop, my dear.” He leaned over and kissed her cheek.
An hour later at the Save the Environment Charity ball, Elsie felt so out of place with all the guests who obviously wealthy. She just couldn’t get into some of the conversation.
Damn, Carlos!
He had left her for a few moments after introducing her to a few of his acquaintances. She sipped champagne in a corner watching everybody mingle. She was never much of a party girl. Always the introvert.
“So, you’re Carlos’s new girl.” A man with blond hair and deep blue eyes blinked at her. He had a glass of champagne in his hand and he seemed intoxicated. His smile did not touch his eyes.
“You are?” she asked.
“Oh, dear, where are my manners? I’m Carlos’s half-brother, John.” He stretched out his hand to shake hers.
Elsie sighed. Carlos never spoke much about his brothers or his half-brothers. She’d gathered they weren’t really that close.
“Everything okay here?” Carlos deep voice came through, his lips clenched and his body language stiff.
“Um…I’m fine.”
“John.”
“Carlos.”
“I was just about to say congratulations on finding a bride to keep your shares in the business,” John slurred.
“Fuck off, John.”
“Oh, wait. You mean, you didn’t tell your little lady here that you need to marry her to keep your job at Kincade?” he slurred again and then faked an apologetic look. “Oops. I best be getting on then. Have a lovely evening, darling.”
Carlos lips were pinched and his face was dangerously dark.
Elsie could not breathe. She felt so small. “So that’s why you wanted me to marry you? So that you could keep your job?” Why in God’s name had she thought he was actually falling in love with her? He was just using her? Just to get money. Ugh!
“I…I have to go…” Elsie stumbled as she walked out of the ball room. Carlos didn’t even try to explain anything to her. She looked briefly to her side to see if he would be following her. He had not. She walked out alone.
So much for falling in love.
She had no idea her relationship with Carlos would end as fast as it started. Her heart squeezed in her chest. She got to the elevator and pressed the button to their suite. She was getting out of there fast. Before the elevator door closed, her eyes closed and she slid down to the floor.
